Bucks County Swimming Pool Accident Lawyer

If you have a swimming pool in your yard, chances are you’re planning to open it within the next few weeks in preparation for the upcoming hot weather. In addition to doing the usual pool preparation tasks, such as testing the water and shocking the pool, you should also take some time to think about how you can make your pool safer for the swimming season. Here are some ideas:

  1. Buy a year-round safety cover – Most people have a swimming pool safety cover for the wintertime, but this doesn’t protect against summertime pool accidents. To reduce the risk of children and pets falling into the pool when it is unattended, we recommend investing in a year-round pool safety cover or enclosure. There are tons of options on the market that are super easy to roll or slide out when you’re done using your pool each day.
  2. Keep rescue equipment on hand – The rescue equipment you see at public pools can and should be purchased for your private pool, too. In the event that someone begins to drown, having a circular lifesaver with a rope attached or a shephard’s hook nearby will allow you to pull them to safety.
  3. Put a secure fence around your pool – Whether you have an in-ground or an above-ground pool, it’s a smart idea to install a fence that is at least 48” high and includes a child-resistant gate. In fact, many U.S. cities require pool owners to have such a device in place to protect against pool-related disasters.
  4. Purchase some sort of pool alarm – While it may seem like enough to put up a fence around your pool, you may want to take pool safety a step further and install a pool alarm as well. There are several different types you can purchase to alert you if a child or animal gets near the edge of the pool, including pressure-sensitive alarms and gate alarms. No matter which alarm you choose, it will go a long way in keeping your family safe and injury-free.
